Cold Noodle and dipping Noodle for summer

In summer, we don't want to eat the hot noodle in humid and sweaty Okinawa weather. We have the summer option for Okinawa soba or ramen noodle.

1. Cold Okinawa soba
Not all okinawa soba restaurants but at some restaurants you can find special summer menu, cold okinawa soba. We went to Miyo-ya and find special summer menu and I ordered dipping okinawa soba with sesame source. (the other choice is soy based source and Chinese source.)

2. Dipping Ramen noodle
Dipping ramen noodle becomes famous in Japan and as same as in Okinawa. Normally dipping noodle is wider and thicker to enjoy deep and thick soup. One of the famous dipping ramen noodle restaurant near Onna village is Gin-bee Noodle shop. I went to this restaurant around 11:30 am because always this restaurant is crowded.
I ordered large size of dipping noodle. Size choice is normal, large and special large. Noodle is like udon noodle, pretty wide and enough texture. Soup is strong fishy smell. If you don't like Katuo bushi (dried bonito flakes ) smell, I don't recommend you to go there. For japanese, pretty tasty. bit oil for me after eat all.

Dos manos. Yes Mexican

My wife loves Mexican food, specially Beans but We can't discover good Mexican restaurant in Okinawa. Well, I know Taco rice is popular in Okinawa and some Tacos restaurants in Okinawa, but those taste are already modified for Japanese. I would like to taste salsa source without Ketchup but with coriander and lime.


She got blog information about Good Mexican restaurant near Koza. So we drove to Koza area. We ordered Enchilada Combo and Tamale (Yes they have Tamale). Plain quesadilla for my son.
 Combo was pretty good volume. If you are not hungry, you can share with two. or additional one tacos etc.
Taste is good and not oily at all. Beans, fresh guacamole and rice are perfect side for us. We love Tacos and enchilada, of course.
No MSG kind of artificial flavor (Sometime good mexican in US has those flavor and makes me thirsty).

I have to say, missing things are Lime and salsa bar. and maybe cheviche and stripe stew in Menu.  or and fish tacos. We definitely repeat this mexican restaurant and order the other menu.

You can park at coin parking in front of restaurant with 100 Yen discount ticket from shop. or you can park at bit far but get 1 hour discount coupon.

Orion Beer festa

This is nice summer event in Okinawa. Local music for free and cheap draft beer (300 JPN Yen) and junk food. We made a line to get good tables from 3pm and Festa starts from 4pm. We enjoyed until 9pm with beer and music.

Muffin and role in Okinawa city

My friend introduced me new sweets shop in Okinawa city. We stop by after we went to Gushikaw JUSCO. Shop name is Happy Berry.




Muffin and role are main sweets. 5 or 6 kinds of Muffin. Price is arond 350 JPN Yen. Good size and seasonal fruits is inside. Small Muffin is around 200 JPN Yen.

Thai food in Okinawa City

We went to thai restaurant in Okinawa City. I would like to introduce here, named Aridoi!



Waiter brought spices after we ordered food. This style is pretty following what we had in Thailand.

We order Pattai and chicken fried rice which my son wants to eat.
Pattai taste is not that sweet in normal US Thai restaurant.
Pretty good authentic taste and I like it. Volume of food is also enough for us.


Fried rice. Well, this is pretty normal.


Price is around 1000 JPN Yen for lunch, including free drink and soup.

Definitely we 'll repeat and order curry and the other menu next time.

Nice chinese cafe for lunch

If you want to eat Chinese but also want to enjoy coffee and sweets.
'Cafe & Bar One' in Okinawa city is one spot for lunch.

There are some toys for kids. So family friendly as well. I saw the other two family when I visited.



Lunch set is around 1,000 JPN Yen. Appetizer, soup, salad and main dish. This day we can choose chicken or fish.
In addition these, sweets and coffee were served.
Good volume. If you need more volume you can get large size of main dish with additional 200 JPN Yen for men.

Nice appetizer and salad.


I chose chicken for main.

New Ramen Noodle near Chibana Clinic

I found new Ramen Noodle restaurant near Chibana clinic, named Togen (桃源).
I ordered salt&shrimp soup Ramen Noodle. I liked it. If you prefer non-oily noodle, this Noodle is for you. Soup is a bit fishy for non-japanese, I think.

Next time, I would like to try つけ麺(Tsuke men), Dipping noodle.

Jiji cafe

Nice, and cozy cafe in Okinawa city.



Nice food (1000 JPN Yen for lunch, including drink)
I ordered risotto. tasty.






One table space has kids toy and books. Nice for family.


Bit difficult to park but staff can help parking for us. Nice.

Ima cafe

I'm looking for good cafe (like Masoho in Onnna) around Yomitan area. I didn't find good one yet. But I found good one near Koza Area, named Ima Cafe.

Good atmosphere, good drink(around 400 JPN Yen) and sweets, and good lunch menu(around 1000 JPN Yen).
I visited after lunch. I just tasted drink and sweets. Fresh baked cake was pretty good. I will try lunch menu (hamburg steak or daily special).

Goat soup at Nanzan

What' the most famous and unique Okinawan food?

It's absolutely goat soup.

Some people told me that goat soup is too strong smell and taste, so you might not like it..... but that was not true.

If you want to eat yummy goat soup, just go to Nanzan (南山) in Kitanakagusuku.

It is important to use very fresh goat for good goat soup.

A goat soup lover who took me there said Nanzan is the best goat food restaurant in Okinawa and they always use only fresh goat.

You can get also goat sashimi and stir fried goat blood.

I'll try goat soup soba next time!

Boulangerie Zazou

Small bakery in koza, gate street. Small counter table is available to drink coffee and tea with bread.

I bought apple danish and hard bread. Apple danish is quite good size and good ratio of apple and danish. And price is not expensive.
Hard bread is very hard (Of course), and I like it as well.

I plan to discover small shop near gate street. There seems to be a lot of small shop and interesting old stores near gate street.
